Today was another chilly day and the children and I decided it was a perfect day to make our favorite vegetable soup and bread meal (usually reserved for fall and winter).
After our circle time, we quickly paid our garden a visit and came back with two zucchini to add to the soup. The children helped chop and add carrots, celery, onion, and the zucchini to the pot...
... then they added vegetable boullion cubes, water, and tomatoes. I put in on the stove to simmer while we worked on making more lego castles, houses, and such.
We took a break from our vigorous block play session to make bread. The children took turns measuring and adding millet, flaxseed meal, oatmeal, yeast, honey, water, and flour to the mix.
While the bread rose, we read The Rainbabies. We wondered if we would ever find rainbabies in the grass like the old couple in the story. We decided that if we did, we would bring them to our mommies and daddies.
Next the children kneaded and shaped bread rolls as we sang a bit of the song "This is the Way We..." and before we knew it our bread pans were full. I popped the pans in the oven and while we waited for the bread to bake, we played several clapping games.
Later in the afternoon, we played several games of pretend about caring for babies. If there's one thing that's clear, it's that everyone at Blue Sky Daycare adores babies!
See you tomorrow!
